Historical Archaeology

For a combined 50 years, MTS Heritage has delivered some of Australia’s most important historical archaeology and heritage projects. We collaborate with clients and across disciplines, and work in partnership with communities throughout assessment, investigation and survey.


Our team, led by Excavation Director Fiona Leslie, offers comprehensive archaeology and heritage services from site assessments and excavation to curation, interpretation and community engagement.

MTS Heritage Director Chris Lewczak is a trusted leader in maritime archaeology, offering expert guidance on submerged cultural heritage, shipwrecks, and coastal developments. Chris has extensive experience navigating complex maritime legislative requirements and providing detailed heritage assessments for government agencies, infrastructure projects, and private clients. 


Our commitment to excellence extends beyond compliance—we actively contribute to maritime heritage research, community engagement, and conservation efforts. Aboriginal Archaeology

MTS Heritage works in partnership with Traditional Custodians, Registered Aboriginal Parties, Aboriginal Archaeologists and Indigenous communities throughout archaeological assessment, investigation and survey. We believe in going beyond ‘consultation’, to actively developing personal reciprocal relationships with a network of Aboriginal stakeholders and Aboriginal engagement consultants across the state. 


MTS Heritage offers culturally sensitive heritage services through ongoing respectful consultation, adherence to best practices in cultural heritage management and the provision of expert advice. Our team of proficient heritage consultants employs a scalable approach, drawing on a network of trusted specialists such as anthropologists, Cultural Heritage Consultants, and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Liaison Officers when required, ensuring we deliver the highest quality outcomes without compromising on attention to detail.
